Unseasonably cold conditions did not deter worshipers as preaching occurred at the Baptist and Methodist churches Sunday. Rev A P Howard from Corinth preached at the Episcopal church in the evening, succeeding Rev Edwin D Weed as its pastor.
Four men headed to the Confederate Reunion in Mobiletown on Monday morning. Jack J. Moore G. B. Bostick W. M. Gist and H. C. Long attended while a cold snap kept others away. Moore and Bostick carried walking sticks to help cover expenses, and organizers expect a small crowd this year.
The body of Clarence Briggs was found in Bear Creek at Eastport a week after his drowning on April 16. Messrs D Medley and WR Alexander located the body while crossing Bear Creek on their way to Riverton. They found the body less than one hundred yards from the drowning spot, and it was recovered and buried on Sunday.
A Confederate cavalry scout drowned crossing Bear Creek above the site where a boy named Clarence Briggs was previously drowned. He was seen by Yankees occupying Riverton, pursued, and overwhelmed by a strong current after his horse found quicksand. His identity and unit remain unknown per Mr. C. A. Hill.
Mr. E A Payne the popular sheriff has built a large coal bin beside the side track south of the old depot site and has bought two cars of coal as a starter.
