After almost three months and 650 laws enacted, the Mississippi Legislature adjourned sine die on April 8. The session authorized 18.6 million dollars in appropriations plus a 5 million dollar road bond, but defeated a 26 million dollar road bond plan, national woman suffrage, and higher education consolidation. The report notes strong work and long hours despite flood rains and harsh roads hindering spring planting.
Citizens of Iuka vote to join state campaign supporting Salvation Army work from May 1 to 20. Officers elected include J J Whitten as chairman and Dr RR Hill as secretary with a long list of treasurer and committee members. Judge J H Nathan of Sheffield, Alabama, will speak in Iuka April 18 at 3 p.m. to promote the cause.
James Daniel Helton died at his home one mile north of Tuka on April 1 1920 at age 43 years 11 months 13 days.He was buried at Snowdown cemetery on April 2 after services by Rev E P Craddock.He leaves a wife seven children his mother a brother Bob Helton and four sisters Mrs Mary Ables Mrs Nan Maxwell Mrs Leonie Thorne and Mrs Annie Providence.
