Primary ballot battles and local nominations in Yonkers area

Voters in Yonkers and Irvington will cast party ballots in a broad primary including Republican and Democratic nominations for state senator. Joshua M. Flero Jr faces William F. Condon for the 26th district seat. Jane Todd seeks re nomination in the Fourth assembly district with Harvey W. Steinbergs unopposed for the Democratic and American Labor slots. Polls open 12 to 9.

Three fined for minor traffic at Irvington Court

Manning Shoenfeld of Brooklyn Gertrude Roberts of Yonkers were fined ten dollars each for expeding at 0 miles an hour after pleading guilty before Judge James J Lydon in the Irvington Police Court yesterday morning. Warren Nelson of Brooklyn was fined ten dollars for speeding at sixty two miles an hour on the Sanill River Parkway.

Rev Lloyd B Gilmour's Birthday Reveals Local Roots

A former forester, he held roles in Mahopac and Lake Mahopac churches, and now leads St Pauls with interest in youth work, scouting, photography, and forestry lectures.

Services for Mrs. Isabel Heike

Mrs. Isabel Heike who died at home in Irvington after a long illness was buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery following a requiem Mass at Immaculate Conception Church. The Ed wards Funeral Home in Dobbs Ferry handled arrangements. pallbearers included Ernest Andrens and Thomas McHale. She leaves Patrolman Joseph Heike and several children. The family lived in Irvington for over forty years after moving from Tarrytown. She was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, to Lawrence and Mary Finn Watson and married George Elke in Newport Rhode Island in July 1924.

Veterans Post Hosts BOWLERS In Irvington Assembly

Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2911 in Irvington hosted the Irvington Presbyterian Church Lawn Bowling Club at the Pastime Club on Monday evening. Charles Carter chaired the entertainment with Frank P. Murphy assisting. Prizes of cigarettes went to Albert Forsberg for rifle shooting and John Neilson for duck pin. Arthur C Lord led as master of ceremonies.

Fifteen new members were initiated into the Children of Mary Sodality at Immaculate Conception Church. Milas Ann Rudick presided as president with plans for an October event. The new members include Eleanor Gallagher Margaret Royce Frances Vizvary and others. Barbara Ann Barbarin was born Tuesday at Doble Ferry Hospital to Mr and Mrs Marco Barbarin of Ardsley formerly Elizabeth Monroe of Irvington and Hastings.

Irvington Schools Show Small Enrollment Rise for 1938

Principal R E Townsend reports Irvington schools have 719 pupils this year, up from 712 last year. The High School welcomes ten more pupils, and East Irvington and Sheldon Avenue schools show slight changes in enrollment, while Regents exams yield a higher percentage of accepted papers overall.

Irvington Alumni Eleven Organizes for Season

The Irvington alumni football team held its first practice at Memorial Park with nineteen players under coach Charles Pateman. The afternoon session lasted ninety minutes and a second workout is planned for Sunday. A meeting is scheduled at the Pastime Club this evening.

Harriman Road tar seepage killed eight ducks and one swan at the Richmond 10th Street estate pond. George Washington Hill of American Tobacco pressed $810.50 damages in a letter read to the town board. Irvington Children to See Giants at Polo Grounds

Dogs killed by train near station platform

Two dogs owned by Mr and Mrs Herbert Nilsson of South Cottinet Street were killed Saturday morning after being run over by a New York Central train near the Main Street end of the railroad station platform. Mrs Nilsson was not aware of the incident until notified.
