A World War II casualty born in Ireland and raised in Irvington area, Pfc John J Gilchrist will be laid to rest at Falls Hollow Cemetery near Fort on a Saturday after a unit funeral at the Fallsides Faersl Home Ashford Avenue Dobbs Ferry. His service will include posting of colors by Post No 2911 Veterans Par Wars and readings by Rev Philip W Furs pastor of the Irvington Presbyterian Church. Gilchrist enlisted in January 1941 and served in North Africa and Sicily before joining the Normandy invasion forces. He landed at Utah Beach on D-Day plus and moved inland through major battles before his death. He was survived by his father and mother and siblings, with funeral arrangements conducted by Ewart Funeral Home.
A Saturday evening reception at their Cedar Ridge address celebrated the engagement of Sybil Christensen, daughter of I san T. Christensen, and George Arthur Bagge. Attendees included families from Ardsley and Chappaqua. the pair plan a September wedding as both have ties to area schools and military service.

The gown featured ivory satin with steel point embroidery and long lace edged sleeves. Bridesmaids included Katharine Daves Fanning and Margaret Coffman. best man was Eugene W Potter Jr. The ceremony honored family members from Ossining and surrounding towns.
The Hudson River Junior Service League will hold its first meeting on Friday September 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the fall location.
