An Irvington editorial rejects half truths about merging with Tarrytown and North Tarrytown. It argues the three communities may not receive equal board representation and warns that Irvington could end up with no seats on a future consolidated district board.
In a hard fought local election, Republican majorities were trimmed but prevail. Supervisor William C. Dwell led the ticket as Democrats pressed a vigorous campaign. The piece urges continued opposition to preserve balanced government and notes the importance of evaluating local issues over national party lines.
The Children's Museum hosts a story hour and book fair on Saturday from 3 to 4 30 PM with storyteller Mrs Catherine Taylor of Tevington and displays by Vera Andrus Harrison Serrell and others from Dobbs Ferry Hastings Irvington and more. A art class by T Loftus O Hara opens Friday 2 to 4 PM and Saturday 10 to 12 noon. Donations to Doble Peery Hospital are solicited November 1 15 and 16. Cedar Ridge Home Bureau meets November 1 at 1 30 PM.
Westchester County and the Town of Greesburgh backed Duell in a Republican sweep. The race featured sweeping margins, with Duell securing a strong majority over Democrat Wills E. Bonet and others. Other local races followed similar party lines, including school and highway posts, with several candidates winning by narrow margins. Robert Hochuli, son of Ms. and Mrs. Walter Hoshi, pledged to Beta Theta Pi at Union College as a freshman.
Four Irvington High School Choir members earned all-state chorus honors and will perform at the county center in White Plains on February 9 and 10. Singers include Joan Chaney soprano, Enriher Johne tom second soprano, Richard Gein second tenor, and John Francis. Chorus directed by Luther W. Goodhart of the University. Festivals are sponsored by the New York State School Music Teachers Association and White Plains program brings Westchester and Long Island pupils.
The joint merger committee reports James Foundation offers to donate land between Tarrytown and Ossining for a merged hospital and provides a grant of 800000 for construction. Trustees seek to raise additional funds to proceed, with the James Foundation deferring the grant while the merger effort continues. Local boards authorize committees to pursue the full funding and plan. Mrs Slater and others host luncheon preceding museum tea at Ardsley Park home.
Petitions for consolidating Tevington and Tarrytown public school districts move to state education commissioner Francis Spaulding. A joint Irvington and Tarrytown meeting approved forwarding permanent information on taxation and consolidation under new Education Act provisions.
The November PTA meeting was held Monday evening with president Robert R Hannan presiding. Attendees toured East Irvington and Pennybridge schools, viewed student displays, enjoyed music from a Sextet, and planned a bus trip for visiting parents. Next meetings are December 5, focusing on memorial work and psychology.
In Irvington’s three districts during Tuestas's election Dulles led with 12241 votes, while William A. Buckley gathered 1174 for tax receiver, H. Van Dorn 1087 for town clerk, and Wil C. Duell 520 for superintendent. District counts show Dulles far ahead among Republican candidates.
Irvington will observe Armistice Day tomorrow at the War Memorial on Main Street. Members of Irvington Post No 211 WEW Gift Scouts Boy Scouts and other groups will assemble at 10 55 A M. The village whistle will mark a one minute cease at 11 00. Taps will follow three volleys.
The Trinity Presbyterian Church Fair committee lists leaders for booths and duties including auctions, dinners, women’s club booth, toys and games, pony rides, and tickets. Thirty two students from the 5th and 6th grades will attend a Carnegie Hall orchestra concert in New York next Wednesday hosted by New York Youth Concerts Association.
The Trington village assessment roll rises to 12,205,634, up 235,578 from last year’s final of 12,167,155. Trustees and the Board of Assessors set a grievance day for complaints on Tuesday evening, review subdivision costs for a Vietor Fraser project, discuss village aid to install water mains, and plan policy. William White resigns as street department foreman after twenty years. Patsy Gemma named his successor.
Tivington High School seniors stage Seventeenth Summer adapted from Maureen Daly novel. Performance at Town Mall on Friday December 9 features Catherine Brown as Angie Morrow and Ronald Foster as Jack Duluth with MC DeLorme directing. Tickets go on sale in two weeks at 1.00 for reserved and 0.75 for general admission.
