Editorial notes national party lines scarcely predict local votes as villagers vote on personal popularity. The 4th Ardsley Park district bucks the trend with a Republican victory, the first since 1933, while praising both sides for a clean campaign and qualified candidates Harriman Waterbury and their opponents.
The Irvington Youth Center reports receipts totaling 727 dollars toward a 12,500 dollar goal for 1955. A Yo Yo sales upswing is noted by Becker’s and Corner Store. A Yo Yo championship is planned for March 28 with Frank Hartsee directing and judges and prizes to be appointed.
Arnold Nord Tschudy of Eld er race Ardsley Park senior executive at Bank of America died Saturday night in Salt Springs while attending a Yankers conference in Palm Springs. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Femelift Chapel. He had served at Bank of America since five years ago after long Inter-American and wartime roles in Brazil and Sao Paulo. He was born in Billings Montana and held degrees from Montana Washington California. honored by Sao Paulo in 1950s. Survived by widow Adelheid Sehratt three daughters Holda Gay Nina and a sister Mrs. Rose of Fort Worth Texas.
The Junior League elected officers for the 1955 57 term at a meeting in Ardsley Country Club. Mrs. William D B Marshall was named vice president and Mrs. Arthur R Below recording secretary, with Mrs. Edward B Self as treasurer. Delegates and alternates to the Association of the Junior Leagues of America were chosen, including Mrs. Leo W Eighmy as president, and others as delegates and alternates. An Administrative Committee was formed with several members from North Tarrytown Irvington and Hastings. A reception for Westchester District marshals and assistants is set for March 28 at the Masonic Temple, Dobbs Ferry, with Grand Marshal Paris E Shields speaking.
Irvington children will see a children's theatre performance of Snow White and the Sever Dwarfs in the Dobbs Ferry high school auditorium Sunday afternoon, April 3. Presented by the Bronxville Junior League, the show features a 13 piece orchestra from Bronxville High School and is sponsored by the local Junior League. Mrs Eugene McCai of Ardsley Park is in charge.
Donald S Wormley named principal of the high school at the same time two school board members announced they will not seek reelection in May. The meeting covered staff changes with Karl Carney and Gerald Ivers weighing reelection, and Milton Bjornstad appointed director of athletics. A new junior high teacher Freild Meszaros will coach high school football starting September, and Deborah Jane Ladd was named Kindergarten teacher succeeding Johanna Harris who resigns.
The Irvington Chapter of the National Honor Society held its seventh annual induction on Wednesday at 2:39 PM in the Levi on High School auditorium. Senior and junior members gathered as candles were lit and the oath administered, with fourteen new inductees joining the society.
Report at noon shows contributions totaling 4521 to the 1955 Red Cross Campaign Fund. Volunteer canvassers led by Mrs. Williard Warnock will press the drive door to door to increase participation across the region, with many named volunteers aiding the fundraising effort.
Irvington trustees at a special meeting canvassed village election returns and appointed Eawin Cermak of Windle Park Tarrytown as patrolman to fill the vacancy from Fred Mangine Tuckshoe's resignation. His appointment takes effect Friday March 25 after a transfer from Hastings PD. A public hearing is scheduled March 28 on a proposed Building Zone Ordinance amendment clarifying side yard provisions for corner lots. The plan includes a five foot greater side yard width. Unzner plans a summer visit to Sweden after twenty eight years in the service.
Roswell Harrima of Roswell wins the mayoral race as Republicans gain control of Roswell village government. Kemp and Waterbury win trusteeships with large majorities. for the first time in twenty years the village board will be entirely Republican. Ballots indicate a strong turnout and a shift from prior Democratic leadership.
Dr Martin B Lane a long time Irvington resident died suddenly Sunday afternoon while sowing grass seed at his home on Pintail Drive Woodland Lakes Estates on the Tarrytown side of East Sunnyside Lane. Police and local officials responded. Funeral services were held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception with a Requiem Mass and burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. The Holy Name Society conducted a service at Edwards Funeral Home prior to internment. Burial details and broader obituary notes follow.
