The Guilteau Library remains open daily with specific morning and evening hours and will close on July 4. Local residents and staff are mentioned for housing, vacations, and moves. Several families are summering at Ocean Beach Fire Island and Roxbury New York with local school and mission centers hosting activities.
Conrad H. Matthiessen Jr is among the week s recruits to the U S Aviation Corps for foreign service. He is at a Boston technical school learning aircraft mechanism and will reach Mineola camp soon. Archibald H Rowan of New York visits. George H Schumacher takes vacation. Albert Seus enjoys a few days recreation. Burns couple depart for summer camp in Ashland New Hampshire. Grace Hetke visits vacation partly at Lake George. John Dinkel Sr enjoys life in Detroit.
Irvington will hold a Fourth of July celebration at 2 30 p m on the High School grounds or Town Hall if rain. A 15 piece military band will perform as speakers and patriotic songs entertain, followed by a baseball game between the Strollers Social Club and the Irvington Fire Department. The event relies on voluntary contributions to cover expenses and invites neighboring villages to attend.
Money placed on or before July 10 at Greenburgh Savings Bank will earn interest dating from July 1 1917, according to bank notices.
Public invited to inspect the Red Cross work room in its new quarters at Irvington Public School on Monday afternoon July 2. Tea will be served from 4 to 5 p m.
Fifty knitted wipes produced by Miss A. Jewell of Cornish Flats New Hampshire and a payment of 52.80 dollars from employees of Mr. H. J. Topping's estate at Greenwich Connecticut are noted.
Residents and former pupils are noted in a lively social scene. Mr and Mrs M McCullough walk their daughter Mrs A Johnson of Staten Island. Miss Marion McCabe visits town, Miss Catherine Wells attends Alumni events, and Miss Francis Baveille drives to Mount Marion. The St Francis School graduation cruise drew a large crowd at Brownson Hall with diplomas presented by Rev John T Smth.
The MNM Club met at Miss Flora Van Aken's home on Wednesday. Katharine Brown Dorothy Hall and Margaret Roberts joined the Gamna Isla Sorority picnic at Oakland Beach on Thursday. Robert Hall bought a Ford touring car. Mrs. Fred Gorlich entertained friends Wednesday. Adalaide Johns visits Mrs. James Lott in Draper Terrace. John Dunbar buys a motor boat to be ready soon. Yonkers High School graduates include Ethel Wand and Ruth Keys.
