Man Rescued From Smoke Filled Room
Daniel S. Riker of 35 South Broadway Cedar Hill was rescued from a smoke filled room early Friday by a milkman who noticed the smoke. Irvington police alerted by a neighbor found Riker safe. An examination showed a smoldering fire in an overstuffed chair. officers extinguished it before the fire department arrived.

Wells Receives Board Tribute as Term Ends
Richard C. Wells, president of the Irvington Board of Education, ends his six year term June 30. The board voted a formal tribute at a special meeting after the high school commencement, praising his role in gym and elementary school construction and his steady leadership. He offered to assist the board as needed. The board also accepted the resignation of fifth grade teacher Thomas J. Guella to join Wantagh schools and approved last minute bills for 1956-37. A request to erect a sturdy wire fence to deter trespassing on Seymour Peyser’s property was read and discussed after his pool issue arose.
