Irvington Bans Lawn Watering As Mayor Tightens Rules

Irvington imposes a midnight June 24 1965 ban on lawn watering and autom o mobile washing. Pools cannot be filled from local water supply except recirculating ones. Wading pools in Memorial and Matthiessen parks may be filled only if feasible with river water. Memorial notes a drought driven move amid low NYC reservoirs. Mrs. Elsie Brown visited Miss Allison Wier over the weekend.

Summer Rec Program Sign Up Dates Set

Irvington Recreation Department announces an eight week summer program from June 28 to August 20 at Memorial Park Field House. Sign up June 28 and 29 from 10 am to 5 pm with a $2 first child and $1 for each additional child.

Cub Scouts Hike Up High Tor in Irvington

Cub Scout Pack 102 of Irvington held its final meeting with a family hike and picnic at High Tor near Haver straw. After climbing the mountain, the group built a campfire, cooked lunch, and enjoyed river views before a meeting, awards, and sing-along led by Cub master Sal Madonna and Assistant Cubmaster Bob Wright who presented Arrow of Light Badges to Jeff Fowler and Jeremy Samuelson.

IHS to Graduate 83 Saturday at Memorial Park

Irvington High School will graduate 83 seniors in commencement exercises Saturday at 7 p.m. in Memorial Park. Mary Ellen Murphy and Daniela M Fragiacomo will speak, with Alexander S. Carney delivering the principal address. 75 percent of seniors have been accepted to colleges, 10 percent awaiting word. Swimming Beach Set to Open at Matthiessen Park

Matthiessen Park beach will open for swimming Sunday with lifeguards on duty. Ronald Chase, recreation director, said water tests have shown the area safe for swimming.

Mayor Forms Seven Member Committee To Tackle Expressway Fight

Mayor Peter A. Peyser announced a special seven member committee to address problems posed by the proposed expressway through the village. The panel will report to the board and plan how to operate, with first meeting expected next week to appoint a chairman and formulate procedures. The mayor notes the move fits aggressive village efforts to oppose the highway, while state lawmakers plan hearings with public works officials on route options.
