Five Foot Sturgeon Washed Up on Beach
Memories of pre pollution days return to Irvington as a five-foot sturgeon washed ashore at Matthiessen Park known as Tifany's Shore. Police alerted street commissioner Walter C. McBride and a highway truck removed the odoriferous mass. The tale recalls sturgeon fishing once a livelihood in the upper Hudson and the Albany beet nickname for the species. Mrs. B E McCall of North Cottenet Street visits relatives in Orleans and St Johnsbury Vermont.

Irvin gton Village to Close Clerk Office on Saturdays
The Irvington village board voted to close the Town Hall clerk’s office on Saturdays during July and August and also on Saturday September 1 as part of a land lease arrangement with New York City. The plan includes a municipal parking area south of Main Street with meters and a share of gross revenue. A separate vote approved preparing formal land and use agreements with the city after a review by Trustee Joan W Waterbury. Registration for the Irvington Youth Center summer program is set for Monday June 25 from 9 am to 2 pm with age specific slots. Mrs Merlon Broenstan and family have moved to 14 South Broadway.

Services on Friday For Carl E Wistrand
Carl E Wistrand a former Irvington fire chief and World War II veteran died at Rosary Hill Hawthorne after a long illness at age 50. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm at Vanderbilt Funeral Home in Tarrytown with burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. He had lived with his sister Mrs Robert Ethel Smith on South Ferris Street and worked at the Chevrolet plant in Tarrytown until late 1955 when a broken leg worsened his health. Surviving are his sister Geeta Wistrand and Mrs Robert.

Trustees commend Patrolman Hannon for prisoner capture
The Board of Trustees voted a commendation to Patrolman John Hannon for capturing a prisoner who escaped from the Tarrytown department and was pursued through Irvington in a Terry town police car. The board also appointed Patrolman John DiCioccio to the regular force after a temporary period, following Chief Fallon's recommendation and a letter from Chief Everett Fisher.

Sterling Fisher former mayor of Tarrytown buys the George J Oneto residence on Half Moon Lane in Irvington. County Trust Buys $68,000 Bond Issue
The County Trust Company was the sole bidder for $68,000 in village two year bonds offered for sale Tuesday at par with a 2.25 percent yield. Bacon Blevenson & Co. of New York bid $12 premium for bonds at 3 percent. Bonds mature in four equal annual installments of $17,000 from 1957 through 1960 to reimburse village expenditures from March 1 to May 3, 1955–56.

Irvington High to Hold Outdoor Commencement for 31 Seniors
Thirty one seniors at Irvington High School will receive diplomas at a Saturday commencement at Memorial Park at 7 PM with outdoor program weather contingency.
