Lewis Thorgerson, son of Edward and Mel, earned a major letter for varsity track at Air School Pottstown. Peter and Michael Hutchere, sons of Henri and Mrs. Hutchere, were christened at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church with a garden party afterward.
Five traffic violators faced Irving ton Village Police Court on Wednesday, with fines totaling 55. Lows Lege of Troy was fined 15 for speeding, John Handy Jr of Hastings 25 for second offense, Herbert Mayers of Yonkers and Hubert Letterman of New York 10 each for passing a red light, and Marie Willens of the Bronx - for passing a school bus illegally.
Registration for Summer Day Camp in Whitton begins with Phil Arnold, director of the Youth Center. All children planning to attend must register in advance. Activities include a senior ping pong tournament starting Thursday night, mixed doubles tennis on June 3, field events and a senior softball game on June 4, and a block dance on Buckhout Street that evening.
Weekend service changes limit access to the lower level of Grand Central Terminal. New York Central resumes service Sunday with three daily Grand Central to Sunnyside trips on Train No 221, 1:00 p.m. departure, 1:35 p.m. arrival, stopping at Sunnyside and nearby attractions. Passengers may tour the estate grounds in Irvington and Tarrytown with connections to a northbound loop and a Williamsburg style sightseeing line.
Weather failed to dampen interest as 30 Ardsley women joined an 18 hole golf event. Winners included Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Ver Olson with notable entrants such as Mrs. Lodge and Mrs. Stevens. The Ardsley Country Club hosts a Hudson Contes Clas invitation event next week with 25 players announced by Mrs. Banser.
Charlee FE Love of Clinton Arense was elected to the boards of Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges at their annual meeting. M. Love, Hobart graduate class of 1982, is vice president at TBM and formerly a Navy lieutenant. He serves as a director of the National Sales Executive Club and trustee of Irvington Presbyterian Church.
The Mother's Club of the Immaculate Conception Church held its last June meeting at Holy Name Hall. Officers for a two year term were elected: Mrs Frank Lynch president, Mr Ed Slattery vice president, Nes John Lanigan corresponding secretary, Mrs John Meszaros recording secretary, and Mrs Anthony Gemma treasurer. Meetings resume in September after refreshments.
The church proceeds on schedule with steel arriving to reinforce the door frame while basement work clears and levels space for seating and a stage area toward the Broadway end. Plans include upstairs and downstairs lavatories, a new entryway nearing completion, and a Sunday School facility expanding to accommodate children under nine as elders respond to parent surveys.
The Village of Tivington awarded 190000 sewage disposal plant bonds to Cullen Davis & Co of New York at 1.70 percent interest with a 6726 presumption. ten proposals were opened, the award deferred, and a seven year sick leave extension for village employees was approved alongside the bond sale details and project progress.
Dr John Ray Dunning named dean of Columbia University School of Engineering after accepting post offered by trustees. He succeeds Dean James K Finley Tong, who will retire June 30. Dunning has led early cyclotron work at Columbia and contributed to foundational neutron experiments and cyclotron development.
Joan Weaver to become a bride in a Saturday afternoon ceremony at St Unemabas. The couple includes Anthony Freeman Hovey and Walter Hovey. Weaver’s education spans Rrigeelis Junior College and Barnard College. A separate tour of Irvington House for Carine Children was led by Dr. Gevene Zuckerman with NY school officials. A hospital patient, Ars Prank’ J. Morgan, remains recuperating after an operation.
