School Exits Not Safe For Most Children In US and Canada
A report by the Building Exits Code Committee of the American Engineering Standards proposes that 90 percent of school children in the United States and Canada face unsafe exits due to inadequate school exits. It also notes department store exits are inadequate for fire and panic egress. The committee, including representatives from 22 states and federal departments, aims to harmonize exit standards and improve fire safety across buildings at minimal expense. The document says 100,000 are idle.

Unemployment to rise in Japan due to factory layoffs
The Japanese jobless total is expected to grow through mid year as about 100000 workers, largely idle, remain without steady employment after mass dismissals since last spring. Another 3000 will be discharged from Tokyo and Osaka arsenals this summer, with more from government offices, amid ongoing business readjustment across the empire. London tax valuations show Westminster as the wealthiest parish, St. George's in the East the poorest, with the City of London ranking second in value.
