Nurses Needed for Army and Navy Drive

A nationwide appeal launched on June 3 seeks 15 000 additional nurses for the Army and Navy Nurse Corps before January 1 1919. Christian Scientists Arrive in Paris for War Relief Work

A party of ten Christian Scientists experienced in war relief and camp welfare administration has arrived in Paris to extend relief work in France. The effort, led by the War Relief and Camp Welfare Committee of The Mother Church, Boston, funds relief globally beyond Christians. Also noted are Children’s Day exercises at St Paul’s M E Church Sunday School on June 9 at 7:45, with parents invited.

Lady Azgapetian to Address Red Cross in Irvington

Irv ington residents are invited to a Red Cross meeting at the High School on Tuesday at eight. Lady Anne Azgapetian, recently back from service with the Imperial Russian Red Cross, will recount a heart breaking story of suffering in Armenia Persia and Russia. She and General Azgapetian fled Bolshevik peril and returned to New York. The speaker, born in Russian Poland and later American, carries two decorations and speaks of women facing dire conditions in Armenia.

The latest county report covers May 1 to June 1. Bronxville leads with 67 percent. Irvington at 28 percent. Totals show varied county sales, including Crotonon-Hudson, Mount Kisco, New Rochelle, Ossining, Pelham, Port Chester, Rye, Tarrytown, White Plains, Yonkers, and others, with overall regional performance near 19.7 percent and a sizable grand total.

Chaplain Silver Hosts West Point Women's Club Visit

The Women's Club of 23 members, led by the President Mrs. Parsons, traveled by train to West Point on Sunday. They attended Communion, heard Chaplain Silver preach, toured the chapel and grounds, swam and sang, then watched the Dress Parade before returning. The gathering ended with a gift bearing the inscription Our Friend.

Loyalty Club Meeting Highlights War Service and Local History

The Loyalty Club met in the High School Auditorium on Friday May 31. Miss Hall read letters from Mrs. C G Smith's nephew recounting his experiences as an ambulance driver under fire for which he earned the War Cross. Mr R G Abercrombie gave a history of Irvington from its charter to the Phillipses, noting prominent residents and local wartime responses. Miss Clinton of New York delivered monologues familiar at camps and was well received. The next meeting will be a suffrage gathering in the study hall with Courtland Smith on the Democratic side and Charles Millard on the Republican side.

Westchester Women Organize for Children's Census Drive

A June Westchester County gathering at White Plains Court House organized the National Council of Defense effort for the Children’s Bureau. 279 of York State’s 8465 children under 6 are targeted for census and weighing, with volunteers recruited by local chairmen to support welfare, nutrition, and Red Cross efforts across Irvington and Yonkers communities.
