East Irvington residents report a busy Fourth of July with visits from Ruth Roane and Paul Taxter, family gatherings in Yonkers and New Rochelle, and plans for guests from Brooklyn. Fourth of July Band Concert draws large turnout

The July 4th band concert drew over 1000 attendees under sunny skies. Baure's band performed from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the park with a platform built by A. M. Hunter & Son and lighting by Robert James Rosvally. Concert funds were raised from a list of local contributors.

Irvington Fire Company Calls Special Meeting

A special meeting of the Irvington Fire Company was called for Monday evening by Captain Gallagher to discuss alterations to the company rooms. Proposals include relocating the meeting room from the corner to the former police headquarters site, with the police room taking the current space. A committee was appointed to work with the trustees on the plan, which appears favorable and likely to be adopted soon.

Wedding of Gertrude Duff and William Sweetman at Immaculate Conception

On Wednesday morning at 10 30 oclock the Immaculate Conception Ghureh was the scene of a very pretty wedding when Miss Gertrude Claire Duff became the bride of Mr. William Edward Sweetman. The Rev Thomas J Donlon assisted by the Rev Ernest Badecker performed the ceremony. The wedding march was played by Miss Margaret Owens with Agnes Baviello of Dobbs Ferry singing Oh Promise Me. The bride wore a white satin gown with Renaissance lace and a satin train. Her veil was held by a coronet of orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of Lily of the valley and white roses. Bridesmaid Miss Ieanel M Dust wore pink crepe chiffon with lace and a picture hat, carrying pink roses. Best man was Morgan Sweetman, brothers acted as ushers and the couple left for a honeymoon in the Adirondacks. They will reside at 9 North D street after returning.

Hugh Hill Dies After Short Illness

Hugh Hill a longtime Irvington resident and New York businessman died at his home on Monday at age 66 following a brief heart illness. He recently returned from Europe and supported Scout activities, donating his Hill Playing Field for a decade. Survived by brother Col. Frederick Trevor Hill, the funeral was held Tuesday at 2 PM at his residence with Rev. William Neely Colton officiating. interment followed on Long Island.
