New Rye School Names Longtime Supervising Principal

A native New Yorker with Ulster County farm roots, the appointee has 11 years as Rye High School principal and assistant to the superintendent. His training spans New Paltz Normal. Columbia College education. NYU study. and Strayer Enj coursework. He has led Lower School, Newburgh schools, and Rye since, with Phi Delta Kappa membership and past Westchester Schoolmasters’ Club president.

Summer Vesper Services Start Noted In Tarrytown Area

The second summer vesper series drew church members from Tarrytown Yonkers Pocantico Hills Irvington and Dobbs Ferry to Washington Irving High School in Tarrytown. Rev Horace H Hunt presided with Rev Louis R Howell as speaker and Carl F Wilber leading singing aided by Francis Baker on organ. Services begin Sundays at 7 30 pm in open netting on the lawn with weather guiding plans and traffic police directing entrants.

Historical groups pilgrimage to Rockland County

Two local societies organized a June pilgrimage visiting Tappan and Stony Point. The tour began at Irvington Piermont Ferry with guides Ernest Griffin and Rev. Charles Karston leading members from Tarrytown and South Greenburgh. Stops included Major Andre’s 76 House, Washington’s headquarters, and the Stony Point battlefield with a lunch and remarks from historians.

Three cars in crash cause no injuries in Tarrytown

Three vehicles collided on North Broadway in Tarrytown New York as Elizabeth Moobius 113 Grove Street and James Warnock 12 North Street both traveled south. Nicolai Mednikoff of White Plains also involved. All drivers agreed to settle damages. traffic police Sgt. Habermett managed the scene.

Irvington Excavation Underway for New Irvington House

About 193 subscribers have donated to the Police Pension Fund with Chief McCall hopeful for more names this fall. The Irvington House project, replacing a fire-destroyed building, began excavation by Lyman F. Kipp & Sons of Hastings. Turner dock will receive excavated earth. Lowrey Construction Company of New York City builds the 160 by 200 foot structure, one of the county’s largest.

Firemen to Take Part in Tarrytown Parade in June

A representative group of Irvington firemen prepared to participate in the annual Tarrytown parade in June. Activities include training under 2nd Assistant Engineer Maffucci, a music committee, and a planned appearance at Warhour in land Park on September 134. Fines totaling $66 were imposed with $60 to Police Pension Fund and $5 to the State. The department will also take part in the October 22 parade and back the Park Plan per a unanimous motion.

Bids Open for $240000 Bond Road Improvements

Irvington trustees opened bids from firms countywide for a $240,000 bond issue covering road and village improvements on Midland Avenue Harriman Road Tack Road and several cross streets. Low bidders Petrillo & Golave Mt Vernon and others from New York area were listed with totals and the National Bank Note Co Cleveland Ohio won the bond printing contract.

Special Holiday Water Sports At RAC Quet And Swim Club

The Racquet and Swim Club hosts a special Independence Day program with water sports led by Paul King Randall beginning at 2 30 pm. Dancing runs 4 00 to 7 00 pm supervised by Frederic D. Carter, with Tea on the terrace. Over 250 members and guests expected. Events include junior to senior races, color race, pajama race, father and child races, and diving exhibitions. The pool remains open until midnight on weekdays with a professional attendant.
