Work to Start Soon on New Firehouse on Main Street
Construction of a new firehouse on Main Street is set to begin soon after a general contract was signed at Town Hall by Alvin Salish of Wendover Building Corp. Kevin O Neill and Mayor Peter A. Peyser expect the contract to be countersigned within days. Excavation could start Monday if the mayor signs this week. Fire Chief Salvatore Giuliano praised the project as the town moves forward after a 30 year planning arc.

Four Property Owners Urge Village to Press Zoning Appeal
Four residents of Ardsley Park who own land adjoining the Melton Property on South Broadway between Osceola and Ardsley Avenues sent a Monday night letter to the Board of Trustees urging the village to pursue a pending appeal of a Supreme Court in White Plains ruling. The case centers on the Melton property division and the zoning ordinance’s acreage and Broadway frontage requirements for multifamily dwellings, with the village noting a possible sale might reclassify the property to a one family use. The four owners Peter Pace Alexander Haber and Vincent Peters argue the ordinance section is proper and needed, as Erthal Holding Corp has gained subdivision approval for five front parcels, while the village attorney outlined that no appeal has been perfected while sale uncertainties linger.

Elmsford man fined for drunk driving on Saw Mill Parkway
In Police Court last night Artimus Jones, 58, of Elmsford, paid a $100 fine for drunk driving after being arrested in the northbound lane of the Saw Mill River Parkway on December 13. He testified medication and injuries affected him. The court also collected forty $2 parking fines and other penalties during snowstorm enforcement to clear streets.

Board Seeks Bids For New High School Feb 20
The Board of Education asked contractors to bid on a 2 604 800 project with bids opening February 20. Construction should start this spring and finish by fall next year, with costs about 100000 over budget unless bids come in lower. Site work remains a major alternates issue including the football field and track.

Col Raymond Henri to Head Red Cross Drive this Year
Col Raymond Henri, U S Marine Corps Reserve, will head the Irvington Red Cross Fund Drive for 1964. At the kickoff meeting on January 16 at Mrs Gwillym R Thomas's home, fund goal was set at 6200 dollars, $200 below the Westchester budget. Also named were officers Clay Rice Smith and Louis Andrews, with C W Spangenberger as secretary and George H Buterbaugh in public relations.

Arthur Sundberg Dies at 87 in Sun City California
Funeral services for Arthur Sundberg formerly of Irvington were held January 12 in Sun City California. He died at his Sun City home at 87 after a brief illness. Survivors include wife Ebba and daughter Mrs Natalie Goulding of Billings Montana.

Ambulance Corps Answers 6 Calls
The Ambulance Corps, formed last summer with about 50 volunteers, answered six calls in the seven days from January 14 to last Tuesday. Two calls occurred on Monday and two on Tuesday. Funded by village and East Irvington donations, the free service can be summoned by any physician, policeman, or Corps member.
