Miss Esther Rutter Dies at 81 in Sui on Wednesday

Esther Rutter a longtime Irvington resident dies at 81 after a monthlong illness in Albany Rural Hospital. Funeral services held at Church of St Barnabas, burial in Albany Rural Cemetery. Survived by sisters Caroline and Rebecca, and several nephews and nieces.

Teaching City's Illiterates Aide Honored at Tea Meeting

Mrs John Sweetman of South Buckhout street spoke to the Irvington United Presbyterian Church Women’s Association on Tuesday evening about working with Dr Frank Laubach and his literacy program for the illiterate. Mrs Charles J Meclure, leaving town this week, was honored at a tea and presented with a pin by president Mrs Laura Edson as a farewell gift.

Phelps Memorial Hospital pleas for expansion vote

Mrs. William E. Vaughn was elected president of the Phelps Memorial Hospital Association at the annual meeting. Duncan D. Sulphen Jr. became board chairman, succeeding Walter I. Johnson. New officers include Herbert Jackson and Ralph Sheels as vice presidents, Marvie Sifkin as secretary, Pronels W. Greere as assistant secretary, Ton R. Campbell as treasurer, and Islove H. Howe as assistant treasurer. The board rejected several director candidates. The report highlighted 8,681 patients served in 1958, with over 104,000 patient days. Expansion plans call for adding floors and developing a health center on hospital property, with a study due by May 1959. Walter L. Johnson was praised on retirement after 27 years. Marion Dinwiddie resigned after 20 years of service.

Amateur Show Sparks Village Campaign For Youth Center

The Ivington Youth Center spearheads a 1988 drive with an Amateur Show that drew near capacity attendance and raised funds to equip the Youth Center. Red Cross Drive meeting sets campaign start date

We svington Branch of the American Red Cross held a planning meeting at Mrs. Clay Ree Smiths home to prepare envelopes for the Red Cross Fund and Membership Campaign which begins Sunday March 1. Attendees included Mrs. Winslow Wheeler chairwoman and other branch officers who outlined duties and reception arrangements.

Irvington to Dedicate Post Office Saturday Ceremony

The Irvington Post Office will be formally dedicated at noon on Saturday with village officials and organizations participating. Attending are Mayor Roswell T. Varriman, Supervisor Edward N. Veirano, Dr. Philip E. Ssaborn, and Congressman Weise B. Howard Coonen. Yankee Doodle at Irvington Children's Theatre

The Irvington Children's Theatre offers its third of four performances on Saturday February 28 in the Irvington Elementary School auditorium.
