THS Students Named To Village Posts For A Day
Irvington High School students will be named to village government posts for a day on March 1 as part of Student Government Day. Mayor Peyser and Student Council president Frank Gasparini will appoint student counterparts for the mayor, trustees, village attorney, and department foremen. Students will observe duties for several hours and join the regular board meeting that evening to discuss village government.

Village Accepts New Firehouse and Adjacent Actions
The Village Board formally accepted the Main Street firehouse and approved payment to Wendover Building Corp. of nearly all the contract price. Acting Mayor Versfelt presided as Mayor Peyser was away. The board also authorized a $15 daily New York Central Railroad census for Ardsley station registration and voting. Water billing will be revised to limit charges to three months max. Two hydrant damage claims and one police car claim were sent to the village attorney. A query from Rep. Ottinger about foreign consulates being tax exempt was answered with no such consulates in the village.

Village Improves Tax Roll With New Assessments
The village’s tax roll for the year beginning June 1 rose to 28,378,009, up 652,500 from last year. The figure includes last year’s special franchise assessments, with new rates not yet received. Trustees and assessors denied a 7,350 reduction for Anthony J. Juckell but granted nine veteran exemptions totaling 14,050 and a 500 reduction for one exempt fireman. Knute W. Wistrand was authorized to increase the tax on the former Frank Gould home, now owned by Ardsley Country Club, from 131,650 after NYU ownership and prior tax exemption.

Fire in Woodbrook boiler room sparks two days of blazes
Fire destroyed the Woodbrook Apartments boiler room but did not force evacuations. Volunteer firemen confined the blaze, leaving heat out in several units for up to 24 hours while Chief Jack Foley noted dense oily smoke affecting four to five nearby apartments. The Tuesday incident followed a Monday roof fire at Sunnyside Federal Savings and Loan on Mai Street with nil damage.
