Six Irvington Seniors Win Regents Scholarships

Six Irvington High School seniors were named Regents Scholars among 18 835 statewide awards by the New York State Education Department. The six students Toba Fahrer Karen L Flint Jeffrey R Holt Marcie Karen Thomas E Seus and Ian G Wright receive annual awards from 250 to 1 000 for four years at any New York college approved by the Regents, with additional incentive awards of 100 to 500 based on financial need.

Irvington High inducts eight into Honor Society

Irvington High School hosted its National Honor Society induction in the auditorium last Thursday. Eight new members join seniors in a formal ceremony with keynote by Roger Enloe, plus speeches on scholarship leadership character and service. Senior members led a procession as the orchestra played Pomp and Circumstance.

School Board Hears Call for Assistant High Principal

Principal Donald S Wormley told the school board on Monday that attention should be given to hiring an assistant principal at the high school as the duties there are more demanding than at the Main Street building. Board members agreed to discuss the possibility at a future meeting, noting time spent on the new building and maintenance issues.

Mardi Gras Dinner Dance Crowns Local Royal Ambassadors

King Harold Smith and Queen Louis Grisorio were crowned at the Mardi Gras dinner dance in the Immaculate Conception Parish hall on Saturday night. The event featured a grand octagonal kiosk centerpiece by Walter Hortens, with over 200 guests in costume, and was organized by the Immaculate Conception Hospitality Committee with a sold out attendance and a waiting list.

League of Women Voters Urges Feb 26 Registration

Irvington LWV secretary Mrs. Davia Diener urges local residents to register by Saturday Feb 26 to vote in the March village elections. Five polling places will be open 9am to 9pm with the high school replacing Immaculate Conception as the polling site. Absentee ballots available for those out of county. military ballots due by Feb 25. A candidates meeting is planned for March 9 in the Main Street gym.
