Republicans Nominate Peyser Johnson and Ritchie for Posts
The Irvington Village Republican Party nominated Mayor Peter A. Peyser for a second term, Trustee William L. Johnson for re-election, and Charles L. Ritchie for Trustee at a rally in the Isabel K. Mrs. B. McCormack Dies at 53 Active in Charitable Affairs
Kathryn T. McCormack of Barney Park, long a leader in religious and charitable work, died at 53 after a cancer illness in North Tarrytown. Funeral services were held at St. Barnabas Chapel with Rev. Matlack officiating. Burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. She was married to Baren Hi McCormack, an executive at Dow Jones and publisher of The Wall Street Journal and Barron’s Weekly. Her community roles included director of the Westchester Council of Social Agencies and president roles in The Thursday Club and Irvington Parent-Teacher Association.

Irvington Man Dies in Plane Crash in Ocean
An Irvington resident Harold Thompson of the Hudson House and Geigy Chemical Corp was among 84 killed when an Eastern Airlines plane from Kennedy Airport to Richmond ditched off Jones Beach. Investigators could not determine the crash cause as search efforts continued.

A toolshed fire at the North Broadway construction site triggered a false alarm at the Main Street high school. Firefighters contained the shed blaze within minutes. A student reportedly tripped an alarm box, causing the false alert and a village fire response.

Heart Attack Fells Croton Local Train Engineer
Thomas J. Cawley 63 of Croton-on-Hudson, engineer of northbound Croton local, suffered an apparent heart attack as the train neared Irvington station shortly after 10 AM. Passengers and crew reported the problem. the train stopped north of the station and signaling yielded no response. Cawley was found slumped at the controls and was rushed to Phelps Memorial Hospital for treatment by Dr. A Victor Landes after ambulance and police response coordinated by Irvington officials.
