Republicans plan a Town Hall caucus on February 28 to select candidates for local offices. Democrats have not yet fixed a date. The piece notes competition for the police judge slot and hints at partisan influence in upcoming primaries.
About twenty five members of the Young Peoples Fellowship of Christ Church Tarrytown joined Irvington Presbyterian Church members for a Wednesday evening meeting. Rev David Kendall spoke on clean living. The program included games and refreshments with ping pong and shuffleboard tournaments to close. The Irvington group plans to attend the Christian Endeavor convention on Washington's Birthday in White Plains.
A Tarr town woman named Adams sustained forehead injuries when her car skidded and tipped at the foot of a hill on a slippery Tarr town road. The vehicle was badly damaged and towed to a garage.
The Irvington Boy Scouts Troop Hand Cub Pack 33 held a Monday night banquet at St Barnabas Parish House with about 100 attendees. Robert Volk received a badge for best patrol performance. Wolf Patrol led by Robert Frost earned best patrol. Five year pins were given to senior scouts Donald Seuss Robert Forsterg and Richard Irwin. The event featured remarks from Scout leaders Bett Bronnes and Wolert Lockwood and other officials including Mayor Mathew Gorey and Captain Leroy Youmans. Benediction by Rev Lloyd Gilmour with visiting clergy present. Moving pictures by Father McGovern were shown and refreshments served by local troop members.
The bridal party for Marion Payne and Ellers Weight will be entertained after the rehearsal at Stupper, hosted by Payne's sister and brother in law, Mr and Mrs Werttre Seltz, Cedar Ridge. Weight is the son of Ellery L Wright of Sleepy Hollow Manor. Payne is granddaughter of Mary C Ruutt and niece of Dr E R Kelderhouse. The ceremony and reception are planned, with several ushers and attendants listed. the rehearsal events and the ridge series were postponed due to a scheduling conflict.
Victor Estate petitions to rezone property on West Clinton Avenue for apartment house construction and to dedicate Ardsley Terrace as public highway. Board weighs ordinance implications and railfront zoning, with further study planned at February meeting. residents seek village street takeover and public use of private road.
The Women's Association of the Trviuston Presbyterian Church will hold a food sale in the church lecture room Saturday afternoon from 2 to 6. Homemade cakes and breads will be sold, with inexpensive valentines lollypops candy and dixie cups for children. Eva W. Taylor of Sout h Sottenet Street chairs the committee, assisted by Mrs. Robert Gilhrist James Boggs James Robertson and John Person.
Ardsley Park residents note that the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 201 will hold its monthly meeting at the Pastime Club Monday evening at seven o'clock.
Irvington merchants launch a slogan contest with a 25 dollar prize for first place and 10 dollars for second. The Business Men's Association committee includes Earl Willets W A Pate ras and J Levis. Full rules to be announced next week with eligibility limited to village residents or Irvington school district.
The 37th annual euchre and card party by Immaculate Conception Parish drew crowds to Town Hall auditorium last night. Miss Alice Tewey and Miss Virginia Gallagher organized games starting around 8 with music by Kenis’s Coy Club orchestra and dancing later. Nearly 100 prizes were awarded, with many attendees winning door prizes and gala raffle honors amid a lengthy list of winners and committee members.
The State Traffic Commission again declines to modify traffic signals at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 3 areas. The board votes to file a new request seeking permit for signals with hand signals on red lights at Sixth Street while ensuring pedestrian safety and routing through traffic.
Warden Paul R. Krows of Eas View Penitentiary will speak at the Irvington Parent Teachers Association Fathers Night meeting at eight Tuesday evening in the high school auditorium. A prize will be awarded for the grade with most fathers present. Refreshments will be served by the mothers of Tower grades. The program includes selections by the high school orchestra directed by Mrs Margaret Leonard.
A group of Ardsley Country Club members attended ladies day yesterday at the club. Held biweekly in winter, the luncheon was followed by bridge. Attendees included Mrs James A. Renison, Mrs B A Jochen, Mrs Ralph C. Sheets, Mrs Fred W. Hoover, Mrs Hayes Hickman, Mrs Ida Fe Adler, Mrs Simmons of Hudson House, and Mrs Willa B. May of Ardsley Park.
Mrs Jab Herlihy of 4 North Bekar Street welcomed Irvington's first 1939 baby, a daughter born at Tarrytown Hospital on Monde Ottle. The infant's name had not yet been chosen, and exact hospital of birth for the baby remained to be determined.
Martin, head engineer of the sewerage disposal project, announced plans for the disposal plant are nearly complete and ready to be sent to Albany to supplement the Intercepting sewer lines under study by the State Department of Health. The facility, to be built on the old Photocolor property at the south end of South Astor Street, will be entirely underground with no surface structures. It will feature multiple subterranean tanks and only stairways to access vaults, with landscaping to provide a parklike surface appearance. Approval of the intercepting tank sewer is expected by month’s end, enabling the Works Progress Administration to proceed with final construction planning.
The Christian Endeavor Society at Tevin ton Presbyterian Church chose casts for two plays. Ralph S. Smith directs The Bishop's Candlesticks with Noriman McKinnel as the bishop and John Paton as the convict. Persome, Starie, and the sergeant roles go to Helos. Bong, Norma Grarian, and William Stursay fill key parts. The second play Boy Meets Family features Harry Hess, Lancelot Oke, Polly Wombly, Wy Morris, Eleanor Mrs, and others with Mary Ida Hayes as the maid Afldred.
A truck was damaged in a Monday morning incident when driven by Stephen J. Filpeck of Lincoln Avenue Parry Town rammed into the rear of a vehicle driven by Patsy Reale tn of East Sunnyside Lane. Beale had stopped short, causing Filpeck to strike.
Four property owners led by E A Matthiessen and Mason B Starrins filed writs against Irvington Village Clerk Thomas J Gorey seeking assessment reductions totaling 128000. Matthiessen seeks 22300 off a 88500 parcel in Mathiessen Park, while Mrs Matthiessen and Tiffany Park holdings aim for substantial roll cuts. The Board of Trustees faced petitions as Grievance Day approaches.
