Memorial on Main Street Replaces Weathered Granite
A new war veterans memorial is being built on Main Street near the high school to replace the old wooden one. The stone and bronze monument will stand about seven feet tall and nine feet wide at the base with a bronze plaque and eagle. It lists veterans from World War I, World War II, and the Korean conflict, and features a Daniel Webster quotation. Groundwork began last week, with the old foundation removed and a new one poured. Granite stone from the Stearns estate forms the base as mason contractor John Stanzione works. Ernest Stubing, Public Works Superintendent, prepared the plans. Construction aims to finish by next Friday, weather permitting.
