On Wednesday four motorists pleaded guilty to traveling at speeds of 55 mph or more, contributing $85 to the village treasury. Josep Mannino of Yonkers paid $15 for driving on Broadway at 2.65 miles rate. Eugene Mersin of Brooklyn and Elman Mason of Hempstead each paid $15 for speed on the Saw Mill River Parkway. Nathas Canter of Lawrence was fined $15 for driving at 38 miles.
The lawn bowling club elected Boggs as president with Robert Barr as vice president, Matthew Turner as secretary, and Fred Houghton as treasurer at a Tuesday meeting. Officials expect greens ready for play in early May and will show a moving venture on May 4.
The 34th birthday of Lady Cameron Lodge, Daughters of Scots, was observed at Masonic Hall in Tarrytown on a Saturday evening. Flowers candles cakes and sweets adorned the table as ham and chips were served. James Beggs of Irvington led a first program of songs and stories. The gathering ended after midnight with Auld Lang Syne.
The March of Time production Life with Junior features the Irvington Cub Mask No. 102 of the Hendrick Hudson Council. It follows a small boy through a day from waking to school and includes bits about Cub Scouts attire and clinical student comments on typical cases.
The Thursday Club presents a two night program featuring local talents at Dobbs Ferry High School auditorium on April 30 and May 1. The Irvington branch of the Amelia Red Cross will hold its annual meeting May 10 at Tow Hall. Chairwoman Mrs Mion C Faber announced upcoming business including a branch claseman section and three new board members. Reports on past year activities are to be presented. Community members may attend. Donations to the Red Cross Fund total 4681.45 with some receipts still arriving. William A Pateman thanked contributors for exceeding the drive’s goal, noting local support for Red Cross work.
A Forts Hours Devotion ceremony at Levington's Catholic Church begins Sunday at 12 noon with Mass of Exposition and a procession of the Blessed Sacrament. The Sacrament remains exposed until 9 PM. Mon and Tue morning Masses for Peace and Reparation follow at 7:30 AM, with devotions ending Tuesday at 8 PM. Men of the parish join the procession of the Exposed Sacrament.
Mrs George Temple died Tuesday after a brief illness from pneumonia. Born in South Canaia Pennsylvania, she lived in Irvington sixteen years. Survived by brother Frank G. Temple of Scranton and nieces Mrs CE Smee of Scranton and Mrs Theodore Tried of Oklahoma City, with Frank Cromwell of Newark also listed. Funeral at Edwards Funeral Chapel Dobbs Ferry Thursday at 2:00 PM officiated by Rev Floyd Van Keuren.
Mr and Mrs August Bing of White Plains longtime Tevington residents will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday April 5. They will hold an open house at The Florence Hotel Tarrytown from 3:00 to 6:00 PM that day and welcome friends.
The Westchester Cancer Committee announces its annual fund drive with letters sent on April 8. The effort supports cancer control programs and community outreach in the county.
Tevington High School will hold a prize speaking contest Friday evening April 28 in the high school auditorium. Contestants perform a prepared memorized speech and a second spontaneous speech. Judges rate each type and each speech counts in the final evaluation, with several named students listed as participants.
John Reed King hosts a May 8 event at Dobbs Ferry High School Auditorium under the Tivington Parents Preacher Association to record and rebroadcast Missus Goes A Shopping with prizes and local participants. Funds support the secularship and college scholarship efforts of the PTA.
Colonel Walter Mowslett has put his residence on Washington Avenue Ardsley Pack to Dr Loren Gay who will buy it as his lone home. The sale was handled by Von B May Co of 1M East S2nd Street New York. Property includes about an acre of land and a modern house with large studio living room opening to garden and lawn.
The Irvington P T A sponsors a square dance at the Irvington High School Auditorium Friday April 16 1988 at 3 PM. Al and his Orchestra will play with proceeds used to buy a modern radio and automatic phonograph for the auditorium. Tickets are one dollar for adults and thirty five cents for Irvington school students.
The Tevington Board of Tuluca Fon in Irvington schools adopted a new salary schedule for teachers. Starting salaries are $2500 for B A degrees and $2800 for M A degrees, with max rates $5200 and $5500 after 17 years. Salaries will rise $200 to $500 for 1948-19. The board accepted Miss Carol Borest’s resignation as first grade teacher. The 1949 school calendar sets opening September 8 and closing June 19. The annual school election is May 3 with several appointments. The board also adopted retirement coverage for nonteaching employees under the New York State Retirement System.
The Dobbs Ferry Hospital Betterment and Maintenance Fund will extend its mail campaign next Tuesday led by chairman Mr. Odeuist. After severe snow storms hindered earlier efforts, volunteers will resume calls and letters to about 150 residents as the drive aims to raise 125000 for immediate hospital improvements with a new goal of 12500 and hopes for an additional 2500 from those not yet contacted.
The Hudson Valley Orchestra prepares for a Friday night concert at 8:30 in Dobbs Ferry High School. Thirteen student players, ages 10 to 18, include representatives from Washington Irving, North Tarrytown, Hackley, Irvington, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, and Juilliard School affiliates.
