Bank of Ironwood Closes Its Doors After Karste Death

The Bank of Ironwood, privately owned by Fred Karste, closed Tuesday morning after a court appointed special administrator, James Devoy, to manage affairs amid tangled links to the German Bank of Sheboygan. A notice on the door cited liquidation of both banks. depositors had recently withdrawn about 30,000 dollars, and a full settlement awaits probate and estate resolution.

Ironwood Forms New Chamber of Commerce

A new Ironwood Chamber of Commerce was organized with about fifty business and professional members in attendance. Col. Matt of the Upper Peninsula Development League spoke on agricultural opportunities and urged collective support. officers were elected: President C. E. Houk, Vice President S. S. Curry, Secretary A. W. Paterson, Treasurer F. H. Kearney.
