Presenting Steve on the left and John on the right are the 17 months old sons of Mr and Mrs Steve Svalina of Chicago. Mrs Svalina is the former Miss Lucille Anich, daughter of Mr and Mrs John Anich, 1037 Sutherland Ave.
Byron G. Best was chosen commander of American Legion Post No. 5 last Tuesday night. He will lead with Charles B. Russell as first vice commander Clifford G. Beckstrom as second vice commander Anthony Bulinski as adjutant William Pollak as finance officer Earl N. Roen as historian Rev G A Kaltenbach as chaplain and John A Romano Ernest Nicholls Charles E Carlson Alpheus Thomas and Paul R Gunderson as directors for the coming year.
Dr. R. J. Mullen was re-elected chef de gare of the 40 et 8 at a meeting last Wednesday. Other officers include Alois Mazanec com missaire intendant James R. Carpenter correspondant chefs de train Roy Smith Walter Supercynski Arvo Wakevainen Ramsay William Lane Wakefield and David Rizzie Ramsay garde de la port.
The cartoon on page 1 depicting the Cavalcade of America was drawn by Ted Neznanski deputy in the county clerk’s office. Nezzie does the cartooning as a hobby and readers are urged to visit the clerk’s office and tell him they enjoy his work.
Milo J. Warner national commander will address the 6 30 banquet during a three day American Legion convention in Ironwood. The event includes a grand parade with the Cavalcade of America sequence and a fly in from Miles City to bring Warner to the city for the keynote appearance.
Convention headquarters for the Legion Auxiliary 40 et 8 and Sons of the Legion sit at Suffolk street and McLeod avenue. Registration runs Thursday 1 pm to midnight and Friday 9 am to midnight. 40 et 8 may register Friday 4 pm to 6 pm at Sleight school. Fees: Legion 1 dollar Auxiliary 1 dollar 40 et 8 1 dollar Sons of the Legion 50 cents. Parking bans apply around parade routes. cars left will be towed. The Carnegie library rest room at Norfolk and Aurora is open to visitors. Continued on page three.
