County Board Hears Reports On Scenic Lake Superior Road

Gogebic county supervisors heard the conservation committee report detailing a proposed Lake Superior scenic highway from Black River to Presque Isle. The plan involves limiting logging by Connor Lumber to a 466 foot strip and pursuing permanent state location and purchase of the right of way to preserve timber. The county auditor and Ivan D Wright were authorized to approach the state on the matter.

Gogebic County Council of Defense Holds Public Meeting

Gogebic county hosted its fifth Council of Defense meeting on Friday December 12 at Bessemer city hall. D J Kulaszewicz chaired with O Callaghan Lemmer Camilli Stenholm and other officials present. Registrations were taken for civilian defense roles and many organizations expressed support for national emergency efforts.

Jay H. Price regional forester reports a Civilian Conservation Corps safety study over 14 months shows 1.3 lost time accidents per 10 000 man days in the north central region. From August 1940 to September 1941 about 3 million man days were logged by roughly 10 000 enrollees, mainly under 21, many veterans with little prior work.
