Boy Killed at Puritan Mine in Accident
Seventeen year old John Collins died at the Puritan mine east of the city last Monday morning while acting as skip tender. The cage descended and struck him, crushing his head between the ship and shaft casing. He was the eldest son of Mr and Mrs Michael Collins of Ironwood. The funeral was held Wednesday at St Ambrose church. Birth notices and Boy Scout notes follow.

City Taxes For 1910 Bring Lower Rate And New Tables
City Treasurer Snyder began collecting taxes for 1910 on Thursday. The tax rate drops to 3.11 per 100, down from 3.38 last year, helped by a reduced state levy. The city budget shows state 18,407.66, county 33,750.00, city 64,000.00, school 67,579.81, plus sidewalk and sewer charges, totaling 194,919.56. Last year’s roll was 192,807.81.
