Nine Violators Nabbed By Conservation Officers
Conservation officers from the Ewen headquarters arrested nine violators over the past weeks with confiscations. Ironwood’s Alex Jokipli and Bessemer’s Ea Oxa were stopped on Lake Gogebic after dark for netting fish using an illegal inland lake gill net. They were jailed in Ontonagon. First Overland Mail Opens August 9 1857 Jackass Mail Legend
The Southern Overland mail route from San Antonio to San Diego began operation on August 9 1857 carried by pack animals initially. The line came to be known as the Jackass Mail with mail bags crossing the Pecos River by rawhide rope.
