Modern logging shifts to diesel and electric giants in Northwest
Pacific Northwest loggers have adopted 100 ton class diesel and electric skidders and yarders to haul vast timber from rugged hills. These 60 to 150 thousand dollar machines run on 15 8 inch cables and require only a handful of operators, replacing the old donkey engines. Portable generators supply light and water, enabling smokeless camps as rail cars move timber to mills.
