Bessemer wall dispute ends in assault and arrest call
An incident at Bertamer in Crystal Falls on a Saturday led to a confrontation when Mayor Holland and City Attorney Rica intervened over a contractor Thomas Bentley building a cement wall. Marshal Bowett confronted Bentley, stones and planks were removed, and later Bentley was injured after a struggle with officers. Bentley is hospitalized in Milwaukee in a critical condition. Prosecution plans follow, with officials awaiting his recovery. John Kolu, a labor agitator, was escorted from Crystal Falls after businessmen condemned his planned speech. The city adopted resolutions urging his departure to prevent unrest.

Explosion Kills Two Miners at East Norrie Wine
A dynamite accident at East Norrie wine last Friday night killed two miners, John Kowalcizk a Pole and Brick Park a Finlander. Kowalcizk aged about 38 from Bessemere, married with no children, worked in various mines for 16 years. Park about 24 and unmarried. The blast at 11:15 on the fifteenth level of Dabatt occurred as Park prepared powder and Kowalcizk sought a dinner bucket. Both died within ten minutes. Funeral services were held Monday.

The thirteenth annual Upper Peninsula Firemen’s tournament runs to tonight in Ontonagon with fireworks and cheers. Officers elected include President W. J. Mason, L’ Ange. First VP John R. McDonald Hubbell. Second VP John W. Mitchell Haranclk. Secretary T. J. Mynn Negaunes. Treasurer G. J. Murray. Marquette will host next, with the Soo as runner up. Soo city previously recovered from a long layoff to reenter the event. Atlantic won best appearing company. Bessemer took most running events. Tuesday results list Regulation Hook and Ladders with Bessemer first, Ewen and Hubbell second. Couplers race to Bessemer. Consolation hub and hub straight away won by Einean over Hubbell by three feet.
