Birth Registration Law Passes With New Compensation Provisions
The new birth registration law, effective June 27, expands compensation for those collecting data and filing forms. Physicians, midwives, nurses, and registrars will be paid by county treasurers at year end upon sworn itemized claims. Detroit and Grand Rapids registrars previously worked without pay. The change aims for stricter compliance and broader data handling, though it adds financial distribution across multiple roles.
