A sparse court session reports only one indictment before the grand jury and a few cases awaiting action. A slander case Hogan vs Putman is set for Monday, while a steel bridge project over Rock River in Garfield township faces location disputes. Meanwhile a small probate docket and naturalizations are noted.
The fall month of September brings multiple weddings in the area. Rev. C Walter Rehwaldt and Miss Martha Kluter wed at Treton's German Lutheran church with Bav A Rehwaldt officiating and a reception at the couple's in laws. The groom leads a Hawarden Lutheran congregation while the bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Henry Kluter, is well regarded locally. Also married were John White and Miss Verna Cottere at Sions City, and Miss Ruth Orton to Mrs A F Goons in Washington township with immediate housekeeping on farms south of town.
The Lions County Fair scheduled for Wednesday through Friday has been postponed until a future date. It is unclear this year whether the fair will take place and an announcement will follow.
Report of a United Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Society convention in Boyden on Sept 26 27 with ministers and elders meeting beforehand. Also notes on local events including Brewster selling his livery to move to Fargo N D and various regional arrivals, incidents and obituaries.
County figures from Auditor Boeyink reveal lower tax rates across Floyd Township Reading Township and Sioux County with an average county reduction of about two mills. Floyd consolidated tax at 27 mills and Reading at 21 mills stand out as notably lower. Ireton school tax rises slightly to 35.6 mills while overall town consolidated tax reaches 43.5 mills.
A committee meeting at city hall Tuesday evening September 25 convenes at eight o'clock. All committee members must attend. Parties with bills against town’s carriers should present them by Saturday. J. A. Pryor, Chairman.
