Orange City reports District Court in session with the Baldes murder indictment setting bond at 20000. Other actions include burglaries, horse storage confessions, resisting an officer, and a forgery trial. Carr forgery trial proceeds amid legal challenges as jurors are selected.
Hawarden and Ireton met in a return basketball clash played on a small field resulting in a 15 to 9 Ireton victory. Ireton’s teamwork stood out though the limited court favored the home team and swung the scoring with seven points in the second half. Orange City postmaster G L Van de Steeg received another favorable recommendation from Congressman Hubbard for a four year term.
The first lecture course at the M E church next Wednesday will feature Pitt Parker the crayon wizard. If weather allows, a good turnout is expected. Longtime Ireton resident Newcomb Quishman Howard died Tuesday at 9:20 AM at his son John Howard’s home north of Ireton. Born July 13, 1834 in Jefferson County New York, he lived in Stevenson County Illinois before moving to Sioux County Iowa. He married Melinda Catherine Brandt in 1854 and had four children. Funeral held at M E church with burial in Ireton cemetery. Notice to Stockholders seeks vote on consolidation with county telephony group.
