Debates in Yreton Prompt Next Iowa Primary Question

A debate at Vietho's ball in Yreton featured the issue to be debated on January 23 with the proposition that Iowa should adopt a law nominating state county and municipal officers by primary election instead of caucus and convention. Aff affirmative speakers include Will Taylor R H Campbell J C Keating and James Taylor. negative speakers are Byron Lawton Alymer Bushby Col Leonine and Wm N Irwin. If needed a negative speaker will be supplied by Wm DonTownary and a Juvenile Band performances are promised. Admission is free for ladies and ten cents for others.

Hawarden January 16. E H Carpenter proposes a syndicate to buy Sioux river rights from Sioux City to Sioux Falls to supply all river towns with power. He suggests an auxiliary Hawarden powerhouse with 1206 horsepower, with the city council to consider the scheme.
