Memorial Service And Grave Decoration By Washington Band And Fire Company
The Washington Band and Washington Fire Company held annual memorial services on Sunday. About fifty members formed a procession to Elm Grove and Woodlawn to decorate thirty nine fallen firemen graves. Band Master Neil Humble led the band. Fire Chief Claude Reister led the firemen.

Horton Baby Dies at County Hospital Funeral Sunday
The infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Loren Horton died at County Hospital after six days with the family. Named Eugene the baby was to be buried Sunday afternoon at 2 30 from Jones and McElhinney Funeral Home with Rev W W Bowers presiding. Interment followed at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Earl Payne Dies in Electric-Line Accident Near West Chester
Lineman Earl Payne, 27, fell from a damp pole while working near the Formash home one mile west of West Chester. Officials theorize a shock from a complete circuit after slipping and grasping the wire and brace. He left a wife Alice and two children Betty and William. survivors include his parents. Funeral arrangements were pending.

Matthew Young Wallace a Washington County carpenter born April 27 1832 in New Castle Pennsylvania died at ninety three years. He journeyed west by boat and on foot surviving a wreck before settling in Washington area. He married Ellen Johnston in 1856 and left six children. Funeral services were held at Goodin Chapel with interment in Woodlawn cemetery.

Swimming Awards Given at Y and Tennis Court Opened
The Y offers combined swimming classes with town and country students. Five boys and one girl earned buttons for swimming the pool length of sixty feet, namely Fred Spies Gordon Wy lie Richard McDonald Claire Norton Robert Stutsman and Alice Hayes. The YMCA also opened two tennis courts west of the button factory with fees of 2.00 for adults 1.00 for high school students and 0.50 for younger players.
