1870 Cutter Gift to SUI
A paper cutter over 75 years old has been given to the State University of Iowa's school of journalism by the Western News paper Union of Des Moines. Prof. Carroll Coleman notes the cutter likely dates to the 1870s and was built by the Franklin Type Foundry in Cincinnati. It is manually operated, with imported cast steel knives and an iron frame, about three feet tall, on display in the typography room of the Communications Center. Another cutter, a gift from the Pella Chronicle, is arriving soon.
