Six Journalism Areas At SUI Are Accredited
The State University of Iowa School of Journalism received accreditation in six areas by the American Council on Education for Journalism on May 9. Areas include advertising community journalism editorial journalism magazine journalism pictorial journalism and radio journalism. An eight member evaluation team spent two and a half days last fall reviewing faculty facilities budgets curricula and graduate performance.

An alumni coffee hour recognizing the journalism classes of 1945 and 1930 was held at the State University of Iowa School of Journalism on June 11 during Alumni Weekend. Journalists toured the Communications Center as faculty hosted guests and invited all class members to attend.

Pownall to Retire After 27 Years Leading Daily Iowan
Longtime editor and publisher of the Daily Iowan and director of university publications, Walter Pownall, a 1911 SUI graduate and woodworker hobbyist, will retire July 1 but remain part time on campus. Born 1887 in Centerdale IA, he joined the Des Moines Register staff in 1916 and later edited the University paper.
