July 4 Fires Devastate Remsen and Oyens Towns

Firefighters from Alton Marcus Kingsley and Le Mars battled a blaze that swept Remsen and Oyens on July 4 1936 causing about 500000 in damages to businesses and homes. Many buildings were described on page 1 Section B today.

Car slams into bridge. driver escapes with injuries

Dale W. Howard, 37, of Emmetsburg, narrowly escaped serious harm after his 1966 Chevrolet struck a bridge on highway 75 north of Hinton at 10:25 p.m. Tuesday. Chorale Returns From European Tour To Westmar College

Westmar college 57 voice chorale returns from a 23 day European tour directed by Frank Summerside. They performed in Germany Switzerland and Austria with 11 concerts including Dortmund and Aarau where 1600 attended. The group visited Berlin Copenhagen Vienna Liechtenstein and more, performing 18 pieces including two by Summerside.

Iowa Guardsmen Returning From Vietnam

U S Command announced about 2 000 soldiers from 20 army and national guard units will return to the United States by August 31. Among them are many from Le Mars area in the 2nd Mechanized Battalion 133rd Infantry Iowa National Guard, sent as replacements. Total redeploying forces include 25 000 troops withdrawn from the war zone with 23 700 awaiting redeployment. Le Mars centennial rodeo set for July 4 and 5 at Plymouth County Fair Grounds with about 6000 dollars in prize money. Entry fees total 1000 dollars across bareback saddle bronc bull riding calf roping and steer wrestling with added payoff. Open girls barrel racing adds 200 dollars purse.
