London reports Premier Arthur Balfour met King Edward at Buckingham Palace and tendered his resignation as head of the English cabinet. The move shocks political circles as officials confirm the apparent resignation.
London reports no telegrams from St Petersburg or other parts of Russia arrived by Sunday except a brief message from War saw sent via Hydikuhnen in the eastern region, leaving gaps in the latest war updates.
Bench warrants issued this morning for Walter Alberbasky William Gatens Edwin Smith James Morgan and Charlies Williams based on indictments from the recently adjourned grand jury. Edwin Smith faces gambling business charges at the fairgrounds this fall. Charles Williams may be called tomorrow for an attempt to set fire to the city wall. James Morgan is expected to face trial on silk theft from a local dry goods store. Hawin Hummer posted bond and may be required to post additional bonds to replace earlier ones.
Sheriff Rowland has word from his uncle Abner Lloyd of Ellorady Mo that he will reach here in a few days for a visit. Rowland says this is his only uncle and they have not seen each other for years.
The annual tax sale at the county treasurer’s office in the courthouse realized 489.67 from 39 parcels. George Lincoln of Cedar Rapids, representing Hawkeye Loan and Brokerage Company, bought most properties as in past years. Delinquent list showed over 200 parcels advertised, indicating many avoided sale.
Prof H G Plum and Miss Margaret Buddington married on Thanksgiving Day at the bride’s Kingston home. The ceremony occurred at 6 30 pm with about sixty five guests, after which they went to Iowa City to reside at 222 Reynolds Street after January first.
Miss Wilma Dove and Miss Luta Dove of this city sail to Palm Beach Florida tonight for the wedding next Saturday of Miss Wilma Dove to Leslie E Switzer. Switzer has been promoted to chief in his wireless telegraph department. The couple will reside at Jupiter Inlet after January 1.
The jury returned a verdict for the city in the Frizzell case after a late Saturday night trial. Frizzell sought 500 damages alleging improper filing by the city in the third ward, but the jury dismissed that claim and he must pay the suit costs.
Mrs. John Wilcox and her daughter Miss Elly M. Wilcox of the West Side will depart soon for California to spend the winter season, seeking milder climes and new surroundings.
The Iowa City board of supervisors shows no rush to buy voting machines this session. Members question cost and community sentiment before acting, and plan further investigation before any purchase.

Last Saturday afternoon at the Wm Hanke home on College street Mrs Hanke and her daughter Miss Ella Hanke hosted about 250 friends. The hours were from two to four and from four to six, making the home scene one of the season’s largest social gatherings. Guests praised the hostess’s generous hospitality.
Miss Lucy Pingrey a university senior was surprised by a small group of friends at her North Capitol Street home Saturday. The party called a delightful affair with popcorn and candy contributing to the good cheer.
St Wenceslaus church plans a large dinner and supper at Smiths Armory next Wednesday. The event has earned a strong reputation and draws a hungry public eager for a satisfying meal.
An error in the theatre ad for The Woman in the Case misstates seat prices. The correct prices for Tuesday evening and tomorrow night are 50 and 75 cents and one dollar, with no $1.50 seats offered for this production.

Last Saturday evening about forty friends visited Mr and Mrs Buck at their city home. The gathering featured games refreshments and a general social time making the occasion very pleasant.
Rev Robert Ramsay secretary of the Iowa Conference of Independent churches spoke at All Souls church Sunday morning. Mr and Mrs Ramsay will stay in Iowa City this week and he will again fill the pulpit at All Souls church next Sunday December 10.

Fannie Borge of Davenport visits sister Ed Weber on Iowa avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Myres of Cedar Rapids visited the Roche home yesterday. Political Science Club meets at Prof. Wilcox’s home with Dean Gregory reading a paper on Benjamin Disraeli. Prof and Mrs L G Weld return from Cresco where Mrs Weld aided her father’s care. Opera House announces Prince Charming's Fate for December 8.
The court handles the trial of Walter Alberhasky accused of stealing a watch from J G Duff of West Liberty. Duff, who traveled to Iowa City with the watch and $16.20, identifies the timepiece as his. Witnesses are heard and the jury includes McRoberts Baliban Hoyt Banes Bele Dingleburry Girt Binda Roup Coulter Morris Chachima.
The Johnson County Agricultural Society held its annual meeting at city hall to elect officers for the coming year. Elected: Robert Graham president, W D Lichty first vice president, F G True second vice president, Glenn McCrory treasurer, George Hitchcock secretary, John Roegle director two years, T H Morford director, Clarence Holl director.
