Andrew Carlson Dies at 81 After Long Oregon Life

Andrew Carlson died at a Heypner hospital Thursday March 6 at age 81 years 26 days. Funeral services were held from Cases Chapel in Heypner March 7 at 2 PM, with a Portland service March 9 at Emanuel Church. Interment followed at Rose City cemetery. He was born February 8 1869 in Brunsitan Sweden and married Sophia Carlson. They moved to the United States in 1880 then to Oregon in 1881, later retiring to Portland in 1913. He is survived by three sons and two daughters.

Ione Basketball Team Competes in Milton Freewater Tourney

The Ione High School boys basketball team traveled to Milton Freewater for a Friday tournament. Derr Mason and Norman Swanson drove in from Ione at 7:00 AM. Ione lost to Adams 62 to 26, with Adams leading 20 to 5 at halftime and Adams winning by a wide margin despite a late Ione rally. The squad, led by Mr. Tucker, remained in Walla Walla for games and a show, eight players going on the trip: Clark, Norman Swanson, Francis Ely, Dorr Mason, Milton, among others.

The Rookie Morgan Earl McCabe Norton Lundell and Ordie Farrens figure in Pendleton's championship win while mumps cases hit the community. Students Virgil Esteb and Walter Bristow are among those kept home to recover as Pendleton earns a spot at the State tournament.

Women’s Topic Club hosts varied program at Rietmann home

The North lone Woman's Topic Club met Saturday afternoon at Mrs. Edward Rietmann's home. Papers explored high schools and colleges, early schools, modern trends in American education, and book reviews. A piano solo was performed. Attendees included several Rietmanns and local women. refreshments followed.

Model Restaurant to Open in Harris Building on Main Street

Rooms in the Harris building on Main Street are being remodeled for a model restaurant. When finished around the first of April Mrs. John Grimes will occupy the establishment. Harris will add more sleeping rooms as needed and a lobby will accompany the restaurant, filling a long felt need since the lone hotel burned.
