The Clark brothers John and William Clarke lost their ranch house to a Monday morning blaze driven by high winds. An overheated terra cotta stove caused the fire. the house and outbuildings were wrecked, with some furniture including the kitchen range saved.
On Tuesday evening March 5 a mass meeting will be held in the Congregational church of a lane with Mr R T Cookingham ex sheriff of Umatilla County as speaker. Cookingham a former minister is described as an earnest eloquent speaker whose temperance experience informs his talk and wins audience support. Young people are said to gain most benefit. The event is sponsored by the Anti Saloon League of Oregon as part of its reorganized educational program. Heppner Episcopal church has an evening talk by Cookingham on Sunday.
A strong delegation from Odd Fellows represented the Lone Star at the Freewater convention on Saturday the 24th. The meeting featured Prank Landetl Menard Lundell Che OConnor and others with large attendance and warm hospitality. Next year’s gathering will be in Heppner. Local residents report return trips and visitors from Walla Walla Albany Eugene and Pendleton. The regular missionary meeting focuses on Isdia the first foreign mission field for the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. The Dorcas Society plans a hot tamale supper Thursday afternoon March 15 at the Congregational church parlors with service at 4 p.m.
