Local residents gather for county spelling contest plans

Mr and Mrs lorry Shrieve and children of Lexington join George E Tucker and Harriet Brown from this place along with Miss Audrey Beymer and Mrs Lillian Turner at Supt Lucy Rodgers home in Heppner to map final plans for the county spelling contest. The lone school begins preliminary declamatory work as Rev and Mrs Cutler travel to La Grande. Albert Pettys is ill at home. Bert Mason and Harlan McCurdy win high bridge scores with Victor Rietman taking consolation at a Ris apartments gathering attended by many local couples. Mr and Mrs Koy BE Brown attend Legion Banquet in Hepner Monday evening.

Second Semester Underway As Examinations Report Cards Issued

The second semester work is well under way with exams held January 15 and 16 and report cards distributed on Tuesday January 20.

Honor Roll list for third six weeks announced

First Honor Roll includes seniors Norman Swanson and Gladys Brashears, juniors Ralph Thompson, sophomores Elwayne Lieuallen, with no freshmen. Second Honor Roll lists seniors Geneva Pettyjohn and Francis Treedson, Virgil Esteb, Grant Conway, juniors Francis Ely and Clara Nelson, sophomores Ruth Keene and Charles Lundell, freshmen Daniel Porter and Alfred Nelson.

Junior Class Hot Dog Sale Starts January Fifteenth

The Junior Class announces hot dogs sold Tuesdays and Thursdays at noon starting January 15. Demand exceeds expectations with one hot dog for ten cents or two for fifteen cents, the two for fifteen option proving most popular with students.

Ione High School Wins Tight Jungle Game

The second team of Ione High School defeated the Irron regulars 13 to 7 at Ione on Saturday night January 17. Lundell opened scoring in the first period and the game stayed close as the halftime score stood 8 to 5. The third period saw no points scored, and Lone pulled away in the final quarter with three baskets by Lone’s Morgan, who led all scorers with six points. Ione lineup included Lundell Ever son Morgan Akers Far rens with Head and Pettyjohn in key roles. In the girls game L. H. 8. defeated Irrigon 26 to 4 with Ruth Keene and Margaret Ely at forwards, Helen Smouse center, Geneva Pettyjohn Elizaveth Head guards, Muriel Patterson side center, and later Ved a Kubanks Gladys rasnears at forward.

Double header at Ione shows girls’ win and boys’ loss

The lone High School girls defeated Heppner 23 to 1 in a Friday night basketball game at Lone. The boys game ended with Heppner winning 16 to 15 after a 14-14 tie and an extra period. Continued in Pa. 4.

Mrs J M White returned from Hermiston after weeks away. Miss Bundy leaves for Portland’s Benke Walker College then May graduation with Lexington High seniors. Hawks family moves to Parkdale Oregon. Mr Hawks buys a farm there. Semester exams held with several exemptions. Lexington basketball teams split a pair at Artington with girls 5 13 and boys 10 15. boys win league opener 21 20 versus Artington. Next home game vs Lone Jan 23. Mrs Nichols and Mrs Reany ill at home.
