Maude Davis Kerschner, 90, of Iola died early today at Allen County Hospital after a stroke last Sunday. Born February 3, 1879 in Iowa, she lived in Kansas with her husband William Davis, then John Kerschner, both deceased. Survived by son Clyde W. Davis of Topock Arizona, daughter Mildred Newport, 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. Funeral 10 a.m. Thursday at Waugh Yokum Funeral Home, Rev. Ray Nitcher officiating, burial 4 p.m. Thursday Elmwood Cemetery Augusta Kansas.

Eddie Crocker dies at 72 after farmer life in Allen Co

Eddie Crocker 72 of 422 South Third died yesterday evening. Born at Yates Center he farmed in Allen County for years before retirement. He married Lola Willis in 1918 who died in 1965. he later married Ollie Blevins. Survivors include his widow, a son Charles Crocker Wichita, a daughter Ruby Pearman Carthage Missouri, a brother Frank Crocker Merwin Missouri, and two sisters Pearl Reiter Iola and others.

Funeral for Blanche Gilmore in Girard at Waugh-Yokum

Rescued ESU Student Found Clinging to Wood in River

Emporia Kan AP An Emporia State College student was saved from the Cottonwood River after a plane spotted him clinging to driftwood. Douglas Hime 22 of Augusta and Robert Boyer 23 of Overland Park, both canoeing for a race, were dumped into the river when their craft hit submerged brush. Boyer made shore and called for help. the plane guided rescuers to Hime, who had been in the water two hours.
