Mental Health Week Observed By Allen County Group

The Allen County Mental Health Association will observe Mental Health Week May 1 through May 7 with public education on illness causes treatment and prevention. The group supports scholarships seminars and an Osawatomie State Hospital patient picnic and will host speaker Miss Jane Day at Colony Community Church and Robert Talikington at the courthouse May 12 to discuss recent mental health legislation.

Cuban refugees sail to Key West in hijacked fishing boat

Fifteen Cuban refugees landed in Key West after a 65 foot vessel crossed the Florida Straits. Captain Froilan Bosques and another crewman reportedly altered course after leaving Cuban waters and seized three crew members at knife point who opposed the change. The three dissidents were released to Cuba later Sunday. The remaining thirteen refugees hid in the refrigerated hold while docked at Puerto Cabanas.

La Harpe Golden Age Club holds April dinner and May trip

Mills Takes Him View Of Business Tax Credits

Neighbors Help Rebuild Mertz Barn After Fire

No Grazing Period Set For 1969 Feed Grain And Wheat Lands

The no grazing period for land diverted from production under the 1969 feed grain and wheat programs begins May 14 and lasts five months through October 15. Producers diverting land agree not to graze or harvest during the period, with penalties including reduced payments.
