Representative Sidney Anderson of Minnesota argues against hastily enacted wartime legislation. He questions building a merchant fleet under foreign flags and warns that such moves favor private profit over neutrality and the public good. He cites wheat exports and commodity prices as evidence of stability.
Monday noon a fire swept the Hazelton sheds in Moorcroft, destroying the barn and the end of the street. Volunteers prevented spread as wind favored firefighters. Two people seen leaving the sheds before the blaze fled toward the railroad, with suspicions of careless cigarette or arson. loss total.

Horse buyers will be in Hulett on Saturday September 19, 1914 at Sutton's barn. They seek 5 to 9 year old, smooth and blocky, well broken horses weighing 1000 to 1150 pounds. Bring your horses to Sutton's barn.
Local residents report abundant grouse as the shooting season opens. Mrs Chittim remains ill. repairs and paint appear at L J Schiller’s mill addition. Families travel between Spearfish, Silex and Sheridan while students pursue state normal and university studies._births and moves anchor a busy community week.
A prairie fire of suspected incendiary origin damaged the East Fork head last Friday. It destroyed all of Frank Kelly ranch hay and much pasture, while Beltz and Crossier losses included hay and small grain from 150 acres. The fire reignited Wednesday near Maple and Wolf ranches, burning range with no further reported damage. Beltz offers 250 reward for capturing the arsonist. Several locals traveled through town, including Dink Cooper, Mrs Merry man, and K J Steen. Bob, a noted dry farmer, reported 1750 bushels of small grain and 50 bushels of beans this year.
LeRoy Brosa aged about two years died last Sunday at the Brosa home on Pine Ridge. He was buried in the home cemetery after services conducted by Rev. Mc Campbell of St. LeRoy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Brosa, never robust from birth. Sorrowing parents receive sympathy from friends here and in their home place.
Apples for sale in regulation size boxes of Spearfish apples delivered by parcel post for $2.00 to Pryor and Murray Spearfish SD 35 11. Frank Stearns visited from Lightning Flat with two little girls to trade with Hulett concerns. George Dalton has the contract for a Duck Creek building for Mr Daniels and leaves tomorrow to push it to completion. Do not delay seed corn selection and gathering. Mrs J E Phillips brought four corn samples nearly a foot long. Co C Storm will have horse buyers next Saturday. Mina Lee Baker left for Sheridan.
Mr and Mrs M Barlean visited James Bates last week while Raber threshing machine rests in Buffalo Basin country. The Book and Thimble club met at Lizzie Parnell's with about thirty attendees and a large watermelon dinner. Mr and Mrs C J Derrickson returned from Hulett after managing a Driskill ranch and plan to reside on Alum o welcomed by friends.
Mrs Powell and Rhoda reached North Yakima enjoying the climate. A nine pound girl was born to Mr and Mrs DeLacey Hassan. Threshing machine headed for Jack McHugh’s farm then to the divide east of town. C C Storm returned from Sheridan with family settling for the school year and all enrolled. Joe Lytle and Blanche visiting to teach at Thompson school. Rev J M Brown attended Baptist Convention in Sheridan reporting progress. Rev Arthur Tipton resigns as Wyoming colporter and will retire. Tuck Proctor moving to Lightning Flats Wyoming with cattle and horses. Sam Wooldridge plans a well on his new ranch and will move his family here in three weeks.
The Endeavor Society hosts a hat social at the Terhune schoolhouse on the evening of September 21. Each lady brings supper for two and hats will be trimmed with tissue paper. hats will be auctioned to the highest bidder who becomes partner for supper.
The Hulett school under Prof Webb opens and takes hold of the work with vim for a successful term and session. Students show readiness to shoulder responsibility to make a good record for faculty and pupils. A. W. Storms family reports reaching Falls City and finding a delightful home awaiting them. they expect settlement in a few days.
Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for floral offerings and sympathy after Frances loss. Notes J W Tlulett and LM Blulett family, W S Miller visiting Ava, plans for Tate restaurant purchase and possession next Monday, J T Graham reports 140 pounds of corn and comments on yield, James and Glen Russell advancing fall work toward Montana homesteads before winter.
