The U S Education Commissioner P P Claxton notes the Star Spangled Banner was written on September 14 1814 and urges nationwide school participation at noon that day to mark the Centennial Anniversary Rose A Bird Moley state superintendent asks schools to cooperate.
The public school opened last Tuesday under Prof. B. F. Webb with Miss Lydia Anderson assisting. Webb teaches the upper grades and Anderson the first four. Enrollment is satisfactory and prospects are good for progressive work. Webb comes highly recommended and has made a favorable impression in two weeks. Anderson has taught in the vicinity long, as one of the Anderson girls. The community hopes boosters will support building a strong school in Hulett.
Roy V Foy and Ella West married in Belle Fourche last Sunday with Rev Faith of the M E church officiating. Foy, a homesteader on Buck Creek, runs a well drilling business with ranch work and is praised as a good citizen. West, a teacher, is noted for diligence and a near continual school term without vacations.
The Clark Bros. sale drew a large crowd last Saturday with many properties selling to low bidders. The family plans to relocate to Minnesota to continue masonry work, a skilled trade they excel at, with little local competition. Their honesty and dependable nature are praised as they depart with best wishes.
The Globe promotes patriotism in schools and presents Sophie Bronson Titterington’s article on The Star Spangled Banner centenary. It recounts the 1814 Fort McHenry defense, Key’s creation of the anthem, the flag’s history, Key’s life, and the flag’s maker, with Baltimore hosting celebratory events.
A Monday evening blaze swept through the Shier ranch six miles south of town, destroying house and barn owned by M Spearfish. Cotton and Mrs Ben W helped fight the fire as insurance covered the loss. Nearby a prairie fire north of Ridge damaged Wm Crossier’s stacks as threshing crews battled the flames.

C F McGuire suffered a heavy loss when his large grain separator burned. A strong wind blew sparks from the engine into a straw pile and the machine could not be saved. McGuire was threshing for Ed Seig on the Sid Roberts place. Seig also lost over 100 bushels of wheat. Jay Clark departed for Wisconsin and Minnesota to seek a home market for surplus beef from his ranch.
The baby boy of M. R. Dagger died Thursday and was buried Sunday in Hulett cemetery. He was about thirteen months old, the eighth child and the first to die. Mr Dagger was away in North Dakota at the time but returned by Saturday after receiving the telegram. Sympathy is extended to the parents and family.
Fred Sutton reports Del Storm's son Wesley broke a collarbone in Moorcroft Tuesday. Details of the accident are scarce, but Fred says Wesley seems to be doing all right and not complaining.
A brief notice endorses Ridgely with a voting timeframe for Kendrick until a metaphorical barrel is empty. It also records E. W. Powell visiting Ridge from Sunday to spend time with relatives and friends.
