Washington reports a clause in the House Leasing Bill protecting homesteaders with lands within oil withdrawals. The draft grants a preference right to a prospecting permit to qualifying entrymen who complied with homestead laws up to withdrawal time, changing existing surface patent limits.
The piece argues that corn bread deserves appreciation as a primary diet in the United States asserting corn’s historic role from American Indians to enslaved Africans. It claims corn bread is healthier than wheat bread and urges acceptance of corn in the diet despite wheat shortages.

The Cooke family in Alva have been ill with influenza over the past week. Locals report a lingering grip affecting household members and daily routines.
Report notes Mr Wollen, manager of the Al va Rochdale Co store, arriving in Alva last Friday to assume control of the business his family to join him later. The record also mentions local expenditures balances and Red Cross efforts including pillow slips and pajama suits shipped to Sundance and soldiers in training camps.
Louie Strand's youngest boy George was cut over the left eye Friday by a piece of iron accidentally thrown by the children while playing. Mrs Zack Thompson of Broken Bow Nebraska, a former resident, visited old neighbors and friends.
A large crowd gathered at Guy Mewhirters last Saturday for a traditional dance with lively music and a superb supper. Visitors Henry McGuire and his father visited the area with the Em pire Sheep ranch in view.
The Godie Church crowd waited for the minister, then ate a short order lunch served by Mrs. Carrie Johnson. They will meet the second Sunday in June at her home, if she can host lunch, with baked beans and johnny cake for all including the minister. Notice cites a homestead entry claim in Oshoto with witnesses from Oshoto and Moorcroft and an officials sign-off by U S Commissioner at Moorcroft.
U S land office Sundance Wyoming May 8 1918 notice that Olof Nelson of Aladdin Wyoming filed a homestead claim for land in sections 1 and 12 T 53 N R 63 W sixth PM near the Black Hills National Forest. Witnesses listed Walter Willson Aladdin Wyoming Frank O Pearson Aladdin Wyoming Nils Nilson Ove Lundblad and C H Massie register. Claimant intends to make final proof June 7 1918 before the Sundance registry and receiver.

The lot includes a white faced cow with left side branding and right eye blindness, a 6 year old bay mare at 1000 pounds, a coming yearling bay mare, and a 4 year old bay gelding with two white hind feet.
