Grandmother Susan Baxter Passes Away Early Pioneer of Crook County
Susan Baxter died at her daughter Mrs Harris’s home in Belle Fourche on January 1. Born in 1841 in Kentucky, she lived in Missouri Arkansas and married J B Baxter in 1860. The family moved to Spearfish and Riverdale Wyoming before settling in Crook County. Funeral held in Belle Fourche with interment there. She was a longtime Crook County pioneer and beloved figure.

Matilda Brumfield born August 27 1838 in Lawrence County Missouri married Henry Sowards May 11 1851. Fifteen children were born. thirteen alive. Died November 15 at their home southeast of Denver. Funeral Friday afternoon at home. interment Miller Cemetery. Member of Christian church forty eight years. Survived by husband thirteen children sixty eight grandchildren and thirty nine great grandchildren.
