At the meeting with Mrs. B F Webb the society enrolled Mesdames Robi Garman James Cole J L Bostwick and Miss Mina Lee Baker Anyone wishing to join may present her name to the president Mrs Robert Brown or to any member Lydia Anderson Secretary.
About 70 neighbors gathered last Thursday evening to surprise Grandma Hulett upon her birthday after a short visit to Bear Lodge. The event honored the family’s long-rooted place in the community and wished her many more years of health and happiness.
The Willing Workers thank the public for co operation in the box social. Proceeds totaled three dollars. Christa fest program features a cantata. J L Bostwick and Mina Lee Baker visited Sun dance relatives. Hamm came from Terhune sick with appendicitis and was moved to Belle Fourche for an operation yesterday. Asher Knepper came from Lead to oversee interests. Spear family of Aladdin visited for Thanksgiving and Han e Von Smash friends of the Webbs. Spear helped with artistic church event.
Local events include a Christmas masquerade ball at the hall with Hotchkins Orchestra on Friday, December 11. Garman plans a sale next Saturday with 6 percent cash discounts on sums over ten dollars. Community updates note visits, real estate activity, a new telephone exchange, and ongoing efforts for farmers institutes and Sunday school growth.
A lively LO. O. F. program drew a large crowd with a strong male quartet and Miss Merrill from Webb delivering standout performances. The comedy Smash drew roaring laughs, Charles Brown led effectively, and a supper sale by Chittim with the Missouri whisper baskets raised proceeds to $92, celebrated by the ladies and organizers.
A large crowd attended the W F Leme sale with steady bidding on quality items. The milk cow sold for 122.50 and other goods sold in proportion as Mr and Mrs Leslie and their daughter prepare to move to the county seat for at least two years. Neighbors wish them well and invite a warm reception in the new home.
KERER THE SHOE MAN offers free rips and patches with half soles orders. A report notes his appearance at the home of Mr and Mrs Wallace Thain and that all are doing nicely. Nat Griffis moves into town renting the Leslie residence, welcoming new arrivals amid town improvements. Sam Folsom renews acquaintances in Spearfish after learning of a California earthquake shock felt on the Pacific coast.
William Horlocker died after typhoid fever at Deadwood hospital. Born near Wakonda South Dakota about 46 years ago, he lived in Meade and later headed to this region before returning to Wakonda for his wife’s health. He leaves a wife three children three brothers and four sisters. He was known as a principled neighbor who helped others quietly and lived a life of service and brotherly love.
On Thanksgiving day at noon Charles H Jolley and Pearl Strong were married at the bride’s parents home. About forty relatives joined a festive dinner prepared by the bride’s mother. The groom, son of Mr and Mrs William Jolley, plans to establish a home on the Jolley homestead on the R2 divide with friends offering best wishes.
A $500 reward is posted by W. W. and J. L. Driskill for arrest and conviction or for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person who kills, steals, or unlawfully handles cattle belonging to the undersigned.
H A Garman announces a public sale of battle goods to be held locally next Saturday. The notice extols his citizenship, sympathy, and contributions to the community as he plans to move south for the winter, possibly permanently.
