Tragedy Shocks Crook County Community

Max Allen Glassburn, 16, died from a gun accident while in a Crook County hay field near Deloit Nebraska. A 22 rifle discharged while he waited on a hay rake seat to shoot grouse. He was active in the Crop and Pork Production Club of Hulett and had recently returned from Laramie as county champion. Funeral at Storm cemetery drew a large crowd with Rev. Brown officiating.

Red Gross Social Rally Supports Society Treasury

The Red Grass social last Saturday at the hall drew a good crowd with a patriotic song audience, two fine hubber performances, and Rev. Brown delivering a thoughtful talk on the society’s needs. Refreshments raised 17.85 dollars, boosting the treasury. state contributions exceed 210000 dollars in support.

Women to Demonstrate Canning in Crook County

The State Council for National Defense will send a woman to Alva and other towns including Hulett Rockypoint Golde Carlile for afternoon demonstrations on the Government cold pack process. Meetings are set for August ith and will cover canning and drying techniques for local residents.

August Tuornquist suffered a compound leg fracture in an unusual accident while hauling hay. The load broke loose on a hill, he jumped clear, and a swinging tongue struck him, breaking both bones between the knee and ankle. Dr. Stewart set the limb. patient resting and improving.
